I hate to admit this but Throne Of Glass actually lived up to its hype. I’m sort of annoyed at myself for letting controversy surrounding the later books put me off the series altogether but I’m here now and I’ve fallen straight down the rabbit hole.
First things first, I really enjoyed the fast pacing to the point where I flew through the pages and finished half of the book within a couple of hours. It’s addictive, to say the least. It was also quite predictable because obviously Celeana was going to win the contest to become the King’s Champion, but I love contests! and it was part murder-mystery too which I didn’t expect but made it all the more appealing.
The characters were also everything. I had mixed feelings about Celeana to begin with but she’s a book-loving assassin! Seriously. A book-loving assassin and a book-loving prince! Dorian was actually the least interesting to me but I did pride myself in pronouncing his surname over and over again. Havilliard. Havilliard. Havilliard.
Chaol is obviously my son. And Nehemia was probably my favourite character in the whole book. Overall, I adored the friendship and banter between the four and maybe even a little of the romance too. The period scene was actually hilarious so props to the author for actually including it without making a big deal.
Since I own the next three books, I’ll probably be picking up the sequel. Though, I have been told to stop reading after Heir Of Fire because that’s when it all starts going downhill. Frankly, I’m not planning to commit to a prolonged series so this shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t even know how many books there are supposed to be? And you’ve probably been told countless times before but… you should definitely read this.

I definitely also found the series to go downhill after Heir of Fire, but I’m so invested at this point (mainly in the secondary characters rather than Celaena) that I’ll definitely keep reading until the end.

I love the secondary characters! Namely, Chaol and Nehemia. I think if I did stop reading, I would skip a few books and still read Tower Of Dawn. Nothing but respect for my president!

it’s not like the later books are all bad. the only thing that i considered a let down is the fact that a book tagged young adults shouldn’t contain adult contents. but all in all, i think the series is pretty good. take for example the fever series, by karen marie, which is marked as ya but after book 3 actually should be tagged adult – with explicit erotic scenes.

That’s interesting. I mean, Chaol is in his early twenties to begin with (right?) so it’s hard to categorise the target audience for this book when only some of the main characters are actually in their teens. Also, I’m not sure how much time passes in the next books but at the end of the four years Celeana will be in her early twenties too?

the books follow each other in time. so i think by the fifth, she’s only 19 or 20, i’m not sure. but the story is pretty interesting. what people are mostly complaining about are the sex scenes,… too explicit, too badly written, and so on. well, skip the scene and continue on.
The story, , in my opinion, is well developed, both in the plot and character areas.
