She will become a legend but first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning . . .
Diana is desperate to prove herself to her warrior sisters. But when the opportunity comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law to save a mere mortal, Alia Keralis. With this single heroic act, Diana may have just doomed the world.
Alia is a Warbringer โ a descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery. Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies, mortal and divine, determined to destroy or possess the Warbringer.
To save the world, they must stand side by side against the tide of war.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review!
If Iโm being completely honest, the only thing that persuaded me to read Wonder Woman: Warbringer was the fact that itโs written by my favourite author. Not because itโs about a DC icon (team Marvel!) or because of the recent movie hype (which I honestly couldnโt care less about.) Hence, I know little to nothing about the origins of Wonder Woman and canโt comment on how good this take on the well-known superhero is. However, I can confirm that this book is just as good as you think it is, if not even better.
I was slightly nervous reading something that wasnโt set in the Grishaverse but, for those who are also new to Wonder Woman, the world-building was just as great and the characters, as can be expected, were everything. I love love love books that are solely driven and empowered by women and this book definitely delivered on that. Diana is a kickass protagonist, and Alia is a force to not be reckoned with. Not to mention, Nim! The friendship and banter between all the characters during their little road trip was to die for. There were so many laugh out loud moments that I honestly wish this was more than a standalone because I really want to see these characters again.
The plot itself was fast-paced and there were some heart-wrenching twists (why must characters always let me down with betrayal!?) as well as that beautiful ending youโve come to expect from Bardugo. I loved the integration of mythology as well as the balance between a fantasy and contemporary world. Come to think of it, there isnโt much I didnโt love. Perhaps the length? It could have been a couple of pages (or books!) longer. Just a suggestion.
Overall, this is an empowering read full of diverse characters, action, humour and feminism! Whilst there are plenty of books out there with strong female protagonists, Wonder Woman: Warbringer is sure to stand out from the crowd. Youโll understand what I mean when you read it. I hope everyone who felt inspired by the movie will pick up this book and enjoy seeing Diana kick ass (literally, per tradition) as much as I did.
I’m reading this book at the moment and I’m really loving it so far! I’m glad it seems to continue being brilliant ๐ Great review!

Great review! For some reason this didn’t intrigue me as well (though I do love DC comics). I just don’t know how a comic book would work in a novel but I’m definitely intrigued now!

Thank you! I’m not sure which parts are from the comic and which parts are from the author so I have no idea how it works either!
