#RamadanReadathon 2020 Wrap-Up

Salaam, friends! It feels really weird to be writing this wrap-up post almost a month after #RamadanReadathon ended, but better late than never?

It’s needless to say that I’ve always felt overwhelmed by the support for this readathon over the last four years, from readers and authors alike. Which is why I really struggled to accept that I was feeling major burn out this year around halfway through the month.

#RamadanReadathon has always been a passion project of mine but, this year, it almost felt like work. But I want to focus on the positives here, because that’s what ultimately keeps me going.

Not only did I manage to spotlight almost every author in the Once Upon An Eid anthology, but I also hosted an Instagram Live with S. K. Ali as well as photo challenges and a Twitter chat. Not to mention a collaboration with the co-hosts of #SARC2020 and guest posts from other Muslim bloggers. The only thing I didn’t do is read any books, but I’m blaming that on my year-long reading slump!

So, without further ado, here’s your ultimate round-up for everything #RamadanReadathon 2020. Spoiler alert: it’s a good one!

As mentioned earlier, I also hosted an Instagram Live Q&A with S. K. Ali, co-editor of Once Upon An Eid. We had a great conversation (that lasted almost an hour!) on all things Once Upon A Eid, #MuslimShelfSpace and writing. Unfortunately, the recording won’t be available to listen back, but watch this space as I’m hoping to repurpose the recording into a blog post soon. And maybe, if I can work up the courage to do it again, there’ll be more live interviews going forward!

THE TWITTER CHAT

To mark the end of #RamadanReadathon 2020, there was a joyous celebration of #MuslimShelfSpace and Eid via a Twitter chat. If you missed the chat (because time zones are awkward!), you can catch up on the conversation here.

Thank you again to all the authors who got involved with the readathon this year, all the bloggers who contributed in some way and all the readers who took part. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this readathon wouldn’t be possible without you.

I actually read three of the shortest books I could possibly find so I didn’t feel bad about not reading anything: That Can Be Arranged by Huda Fahmy, The Gift Of Ramadan by Rabiah York Lumbard and Sea Prayer by Khaled Hosseini. I also started reading Love From A to Z by S. K. Ali and it was just as beautiful and soft as everyone says it is!

#RamadanReadathon will (hopefully!) be back next year to mark five years of celebrating Muslim authors! But until then, you can show your support by following @MuslimReadathon on Twitter and Instagram.

Looks like this years #RamadanReadathon was super productive, I didn’t take part in the readathon, because I honestly didn’t know about it, but because this sounds like such an awesome idea, I will definitely be taking part next time!
