About

behind the blog

Hello! I’m Nadia, an unapologetically British-Muslim writer and blogger with a passion for talking stories and telling stories. I graduated with a BA in English Language and Literature in 2018 and now work full-time at a PR agency alongside being a freelance contributor for Book Riot.

I started Headscarves and Hardbacks in 2017 as a place to review and discuss books, and I quickly found my niche in championing and celebrating diversity in literature. I’ve been shortlisted for Champion of Diversity at the UKYA Blogger Awards twice and won the award in 2019!

This blog has changed a lot over the years but being a champion of diversity is still at the heart of all that I do. Here, you’ll find everything from book reviews and discussions about identity and how I wholeheartedly prefer paperbacks to posts about bullet journaling, #NaNoWriMo and the #RamadanReadathon – an annual initiative that encourages people to support and read Muslim-authored books during the month of Ramadan.

work with me

Thanks for your interest! I am always open to opportunities to work with like-minded organisations and individuals. If you think there is something I can offer, please get in touch at nadiaa2610@gmail.com.

Likewise, if you’d like to get involved with the #RamadanReadathon, you can get in touch (at least two weeks in advance of the readathon) at muslimreadathon@gmail.com.

If you are an author or publisher enquiring about book reviews, please note that I can’t accept every request that I receive but I’m more open to reviewing books in the following genres:

  • Science-fiction/fantasy
  • Mystery/thriller
  • Historical fiction
  • Literary/contemporary fiction
  • Non-fiction (particularly on themes of race, identity, feminism, activism)

If I do accept your request, I endeavour to post a review of the book within three months of receiving it and will always share my honest opinion.

connect with me

Thanks for stopping by! If you’d like to connect further, you can also find me over on Twitter, Instagram and Goodreads!

My blog header and other design elements were created by the incredibly talented Tracy @ Truffle’s Literary Wonders.
